A memo from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, confirmed that Edun and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, will leave the Federal Executive Council (FEC) with their replacements already named.
Edun is to hand over his duties to Taiwo Oyedele, the former Minister of State for Finance, who will now take on the role of Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa will hand over his responsibilities to Muttaqha Rabe Darma, who has been named as the new Minister for Housing and Urban Development.
Yomi Odunuga, the media aide to the SGF, confirmed that both ministers have been instructed to complete the handover by Thursday, April 23, 2026.
The memo stated that “all handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026.”
The memo did not specify the future positions of the outgoing ministers.
George Akume explained that, “These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The reshuffle was approved by President Tinubu under Sections 147 and 148 of the Nigerian Constitution.
The President expressed gratitude to the departing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.
He also assured cabinet members that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
