Workers’ Day, marked every May 1, honours workers and the labour movement globally.

To celebrate the day, the Federal Government declared it a public holiday.

In Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara commended the efforts of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other unions in the state.

He praised them for choosing dialogue over conflict when handling labour disputes, noting that this has helped maintain peace between workers and the government.

Fubara encouraged unions to continue using peaceful discussions to resolve issues and keep industrial relations stable.

He also revealed that the ongoing renovation of the State Secretariat Complex would create a better working environment and improve productivity.

According to him, civil servants have remained steady despite political tensions in the state, and their efforts will be rewarded.

In Katsina State, Governor Dikko Radda assured workers that his government remains committed to their welfare.

He explained that new workers have been employed in important sectors like education and healthcare to improve services and reduce unemployment.

Radda also urged workers to support the government’s efforts by contributing to the state’s development, adding that a dedicated workforce is key to long-term growth.

Meanwhile, in Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia also celebrated workers and recognised their importance to the state’s progress.

Alia said workers are central to his administration’s development agenda, known as SACHIIP, which focuses on areas such as security, agriculture, industry, human development, infrastructure, technology, and governance.

He stressed that improving workers’ welfare is necessary for better performance and promised to continue introducing policies that support them.

He also thanked labour unions in the state for their cooperation, saying their support has helped improve productivity. The governor ended by wishing workers in the state a happy celebration.
