Osun Accord Party Chairman Asimiyu Ajibola Shot By Gunmen

Asimiyu Ajibola, the chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, has been hospitalized after he was shot by suspected gunmen in Osogbo.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Wednesday night in the MDS area of the state capital.

According to reports, two gunmen riding on a motorcycle opened fire on Asimiyu Ajibola in what is believed to be an assassination attempt.

In a statement on Thursday, Osun police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said officers quickly responded after receiving reports of the attack.

He said police were immediately deployed to the scene, and the victim was rushed to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Upon receiving the distress report, the police immediately mobilised tactical and conventional teams to the scene,” the statement reads.

“A team of police officers swiftly evacuated the victim to a medical facility where he is currently receiving treatment.

“Medical personnel have confirmed that Hon. Ajibola is in a stable condition and responding positively to treatment.”

Following the shooting, the police launched an intensive search for the attackers, who fled the scene after carrying out the attack.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations at the scene led to the recovery of exhibits, which has been sent for forensic examination.

Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the attack and directed the command to carry out a thorough probe into the matter.

He has directed all relevant investigative units to deploy every available resource to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack, identify those responsible, and ensure their prompt arrest and prosecution,” he stated.

The police assured residents that efforts are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the suspects to justice.

Members of the public were also encouraged to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist the investigation.

The attack comes a day after gunmen kidnapped Olaide John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
