Veteran Nollywood Actor Elegbeje Ado Is Dead

Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado, has passed away.

It was gathered that Elegbeje Ado died on Monday, June 29, after a brief illness.

However, the exact cause and circumstances of his death have not been officially confirmed.

His death was announced on Tuesday by fellow actor Kunle Afod, who paid tribute to him in a post shared on Instagram.

Afod described Adeshina as one of the legends of the Yoruba film industry and praised his lasting impact on Nollywood.

“We regret to announce the passing of one of the legends of the Yoruba Nollywood industry, Baba Elegbeje Ado.

“Your immense contribution to the growth of Yoruba cinema, your talent, and the joy you brought to countless lives will never be forgotten.

“Thank you for the beautiful memories and the legacy you left behind. May your soul rest in perfect peace.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to your family, friends, colleagues, and fans during this difficult time.

“Rest in peace, Baba Elegbeje Ado. Your legacy lives on forever,” Afod wrote.

During a career that lasted more than 20 years, Taiwo Adeshina became a familiar face in Yoruba movies.

He was best known for playing the roles of traditional rulers, respected elders and other important cultural figures.

The nickname “Elegbeje Ado” came from one of his most popular movie characters, a role that became closely linked to his identity and earned him widespread recognition among fans of Yoruba films.

Away from acting, Adeshina also served as a Christian minister, balancing his ministry with his career in the entertainment industry.

This comes weeks after the death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, who died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40 after battling advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
