Chelsea have confirmed the signing of midfielder Valentin Barco from Strasbourg.

It was gathered that the Argentine signed a seven-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2033.

The 21-year-old becomes Chelsea’s sixth addition of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Morgan Rogers, Danny Welbeck, Emmanuel Emegha, Maxence Lacroix and Marco Palestra.

Valentin Barco is expected to link up with head coach Xabi Alonso and the rest of the squad during the club’s pre-season preparations.

He could make his first appearance with the team when Chelsea face Juventus in Hong Kong on August 5.

The midfielder started his professional career at Argentine club Boca Juniors, making his senior debut at just 16 after progressing through the academy.

Valentin Barco won several trophies before completing a move to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2024.

While at Brighton, Barco spent time on loan with Sevilla and Strasbourg.

After impressing during the 2024/25 season, Strasbourg signed him on a permanent deal. He played a key role in helping the French club qualify for European competition.

Last season, Barco scored and assisted a combined 12 goals in 43 matches across all competitions.

His strong performances also earned him a place in Argentina’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He has made five appearances for the national team so far.
