Judy Austin Files N1bn Lawsuit Against Rita Edochie Over Alleged Defamation

Nollywood actress Judy Austin has filed a N1 billion defamation lawsuit against her husband’s aunt, Rita Edochie, over statements she allegedly made about her.

Judy, who is married to actor Yul Edochie, has taken the legal step after what she described as repeated attacks and defamatory comments since her marriage to the movie star.

In a Writ of Summons filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, Judy accused Rita of making statements that damaged her reputation.

She is asking the court to award her N1 billion in general damages, order Rita to issue a full and unconditional apology and retraction in at least two widely read national newspapers.

The actress wants the apology and retraction to also be published on Rita Edochie’s social media accounts.

She is further asking the court to order Rita to delete the alleged defamatory statements from all online platforms and stop making or sharing similar statements about her in the future.

Judy Austin is demanding N50 million to cover the legal costs of pursuing the case.

The court documents state that Rita has 30 days after being served with the writ to respond to the lawsuit, noting that she may enter an appearance either personally or through a lawyer.

Judy Austin shared the legal letters on her Instagram page on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, with the caption. “Enough is Enough!!!”
