N1bn Lawsuit: Rita Edochie Replies Judy Austin, Says “Only Queen May Is Mrs Yul Edochie”

Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has reacted to the N1 billion defamation lawsuit filed against her by actress Judy Austin at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.

KanyiDaily recalls that Judy Austin is demanding N1 billion in general damages over alleged defamatory statements.

Judy, who is married to actor Yul Edochie, is also seeking N50 million to cover the cost of pursuing the case.

Among her other demands, Judy wants Rita to publish a full and unconditional apology in at least two national newspapers and on her social media accounts.

She is also asking the court to order Rita to remove posts that she considers defamatory and stop her from making similar statements in the future.

Rita Edochie responded to the lawsuit on Instagram shortly after the court documents began circulating online.

In her response, the actress said she was confused by the name “Mrs Judith Yul Edochie,” claiming that she did not know anyone by that name.

Rita said the only person she recognises as “Mrs Yul Edochie” is Queen May Yul Edochie.

She questioned Judy’s use of the name and asked her to provide a marriage certificate showing the exact name “Mrs Judith Yul Edochie.”

The actress said she would only respond further to the legal matter after seeing such a document.

She wrote; ‘’I RECEIVED A MESSAGE FROM ONE MRS JUDITH YUL EDOCHIE AND UP TILL NOW I AM STILL WONDERING AND UTTERLY CONFUSED ABOUT WHO THE BEARER OF THAT NAME IS BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW ANYONE BY THAT NAME .

“AS A MATTER OF FACT , THE ONLY MRS YUL EDOCHIE THAT I KNOW IS QUEEN MAY YUL EDOCHIE . WANTING TO BE ADDRESSED BY THAT NAME IS VERY PROVOCATIVE RIGHT NOW WHICH I TAKE AS A TERRIBLE SLAP ON THE FACE OF THE EDOCHIES .

“ANYWAY , SINCE YOU ARE INSISTENT ON BEING ADDRESSED THAT WAY , I WOULD LIKE YOU TO PRESENT YOUR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE HIGHLIGHTING THE EXACT CONFORMATION OF THAT WEIRD NAME ” MRS JUDITH YUL EDOCHIE ” ONLY THEN WILL I GIVE FURTHER RESPONSE TO THIS VERY MESSAGE .
