Ooni Donates ₦100m, Hilux Vehicle To Support Sunday Igboho’s Security Outfit

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated N100 million and a new Toyota Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community security group founded by Yoruba Nation campaigner Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho.

The donation was announced after Sunday Igboho and members of the security outfit paid a visit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife on Tuesday.

The development was disclosed in a statement released by the palace on Wednesday, August 5.

The statement was signed by Sodiq Lawal on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare.

According to the palace, the Ooni made the donation to strengthen the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network, which was established to improve community security in Yorubaland.

It read, “The Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC), Arole Oodua Olofin Adimula and the Natural Head of the Oduduwa race worldwide, the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has donated the sum of ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to support the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security initiative established by renowned Yoruba Nation advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.”

Speaking during the meeting, the monarch praised Sunday Igboho for his efforts to improve security, stressing that protecting lives and property is a responsibility everyone must share.

I commend Chief Sunday Igboho for taking a bold step towards strengthening community security. Protecting our people is a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious and ideological differences.

“Every initiative genuinely designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support,” the monarch said.

The Ooni also appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, business owners, professionals and other Yoruba stakeholders to contribute to the success of the security initiative.

Our strength lies in our unity. When we speak with one voice and work together, no force can undermine the peace and progress of Yorubaland. This is the time for all lovers of Yoruba culture and heritage to unite for a common purpose,” he added.

In his response, Sunday Igboho expressed appreciation for the financial support and described the Ooni as “the father of all Yoruba people worldwide.” world.

He said the purpose of the visit was not only to thank the monarch but also to update him on the activities of the Iru Ekun Security Network and seek his continued advice and royal backing.

Igboho further revealed plans to organise a security summit that would bring together traditional rulers from across Yorubaland to discuss practical ways to tackle insecurity.

He said the event is expected to take place at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, subject to the monarch’s approval.
