2027: Adebayo Vows To Install Solar Power On Every Nigerian Roof In 11 Months

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has promised to install solar power on every Nigerian household if elected president in 2027.

Adebayo said he’ll provide solar power systems capable of generating between 11 and 15 kilowatts for every house within 11 months of taking office.

He made the promise on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” programme.

He said his government would build solar-panel manufacturing plants in different parts of the country and train Nigerians to install, operate and maintain the equipment.

“I promise that between 11 to 15 kilowatts of solar power will be put on every roof within 11 months,” he said.

The SDP candidate said he had previously offered advice on electricity-related matters and had carried out a solar power project in his hometown.

Adebayo explained that he personally manufactures solar panels and lithium batteries but currently imports the inverters used with the systems.

“I did an experiment in my hometown. I have about 2,000 people I trained on solar, because I manufacture the solar panels myself. I do lithium battery.

“The only thing I haven’t got the technological power to do is the inverter. So I buy the inverter. I do the solar battery,” he said.

He said Nigeria could work with countries such as China, Turkey and India to establish solar manufacturing plants and develop local expertise.

According to him, the planned solar clusters would supply enough electricity for essential household needs while creating jobs for Nigerians.

“You put all of that, and you generate employment, and you now generate up to 32,000 megawatts from these clusters that you do.

“Then you forget about it. I told them that the way we are going to manage the national grid.

“National grid is a backup. In case a cluster fails, you will power from there,” Adebayo said.

Beyond electricity, the SDP candidate said his administration would consider strategic government investment in important areas of the economy, including aviation and manufacturing.

He argued that government participation in such sectors could be managed through operating and maintenance agreements instead of leaving key industries completely in the hands of private companies.

On energy security, Adebayo said his government would promote local crude oil refining and tackle oil theft.

He claimed that up to 900,000 barrels of crude oil were still being stolen, arguing that recovering the lost oil could increase supply without requiring extra government spending.

He further said public investment in areas such as electricity and education could serve two purposes by improving services and creating jobs for Nigerians working in those sectors.
