Olubadan-In-Council Nominates Rashidi Ladoja As 44th Olubadan Of Ibadanland

The Olubadan-in-Council has nominated former Oyo State Governor, Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

His nomination was made on Monday during a council meeting held at the Olubadan’s palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan.

The council, made up of 11 top-ranking chiefs, including Ladoja himself, is responsible for selecting the next traditional ruler in line.

Tajudeen Ajibola, the Balogun Olubadan of the military line, said all members agreed on Ladoja’s nomination, which will now be forwarded to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for approval.

This development comes shortly after the end of the 21-day mourning period for the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on July 7, just a year after ascending the throne.

Ajibola said the governor will decide when to formally present the staff of office to Ladoja.

He added that the installation won’t happen this week due to the late monarch’s burial arrangements.

“We will forward the resolutions of our meeting to our Governor, Seyi Makinde. He will now pick a date to present a staff of Office to the new Olubadan.

“The late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, will be buried this week. So, this week is not feasible.

“He (Makinde) may decide to pick three weeks, two weeks or one week,” Punch quoted Abiola as saying.

Rashidi Ladoja, a former senator who holds the title of Otun Olubadan, is the next in line to the throne from the civil line.
