According to Trump, the militant leader described as the group’s second-in-command worldwide was tracked down while hiding somewhere in Africa.

In a post shared on social media, Trump said the mission was carefully planned and carried out successfully by both U.S. and Nigerian forces.

He added that al-Minuki had been closely monitored and believed he could stay hidden, but intelligence sources kept track of his movements.

Trump also claimed that al-Minuki was heavily involved in planning attacks and was one of the most active figures within ISIS.

Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the armed forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission to eliminate the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield,” he wrote.

“Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of ISIS globally, thought he could hide in Africa, but little did he know we had sources who kept us informed on what he was doing.

“He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans.”

He thanked Nigeria for its support during the operation and noted that “with his removal, ISIS’s global operation is greatly diminished.”

The Islamic State extremist group has not commented on the claim at the time of filing this report

Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, who was said to be a Nigerian citizen, had earlier been listed as a “specially designated global terrorist” by the U.S. government during the administration of former President Joe Biden in 2023.
