Did EFCC Chairman 'Ibrahim Magu' Actually Wished Fayose Death By Saying "Nothing Will Happen If Fayose Die"? 3

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says its acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, never said that nothing will happen if former Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State dies in the agency’s custody.

It said this in a statement by spokesman Wilson Uwujaren yesterday.

The anti-graft agency said there was a fake audio file being circulated on the social media in which Magu was purportedly heard saying nothing would happen if Fayose died in custody. Attempts to obtain the purported tape were not successful on Thursday but the EFCC asked members of the public to disregard it.

The statement reads:

“The EFCC wishes to alert the general public to an audio recording of a conversation currently circulating in the social media in which the acting Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu, purportedly made comments to the effect that nothing will happen peradventure Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State, dies in custody.

“Interestingly, the audio tape did not disclose the place where the conversation occurred and the person that Magu was supposedly talking to.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard this disingenuous creation as it is the handiwork of mischievous persons intent on distracting the commission from the serious work of wrapping up the investigation into the corruption allegations against the former governor of Ekiti State.”

The EFCC said the audio was being circulated by a former National Publicity Secretary of a former ruling party.

The Chief Press Secretary to Fayose, Idowu Adelusi, said he was baffled by the conversation and plot to eliminate Fayose because of his opposition to the misrule of the President Muhammadu Buhari government.

He said he remained resolute in opposition to the APC government’s tyrannical rule which had impoverished the people, stressing that the country was moving at geometrical progression to fascism under Buhari.

Adelusi asked the EFCC to charge Fayose to court as he had no statement to write or anything to tell the commission, saying securing a court order to keep him in detention for two weeks or perpetually could not change his stand.

He wondered why the EFCC was still demanding a written statement from Fayose two years after it claimed it had enough evidence to nail him.
