Federal Govt Gives N-Power Recruitment Slots To Lawmakers, Politicians Ahead Of Ordinary Citizens

Federal Government allocated about 50,000 slots to federal lawmakers and other politicians across the country.

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, has reportedly given about 50,000 recruitment slots to members of the National Assembly, in the new phase of N-Power enrollment.

N-Power is one of the schemes in the National Social Investments Programme (NSIP) introduced by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration since 2016 to address the challenges of youth unemployment.

The scheme provides a structure for large-scale and relevant skills acquisition and development while linking its core and outcomes to fixing inadequate public services and stimulating the larger economy.

N-Power has been embroiled in irregularities following the commencement of President Buhari’s second tenure when the ministry was created to handle the programme.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, had last week, announced that the N-Power registration portal will reopen on Friday, June, 2020, out of which 400,000 beneficiaries will be taken from the application pool.

However, it has been gathered that the ministry has alloted about 50,000 slots to federal lawmakers and other politicians across the country.

According to SaharaReportersSaharaReporters, the lawmakers were given printed registration forms of N-Power to share among themselves in order to benefit from the conditional cash transfers, as well as other schemes which was meant for ordinary citizens.

Some of the lawmakers, who received slots under the corrupt scheme include President of the National Assembly, Ahmed Lawan; Senator Abdul Ningi; and Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman.

This is coming five months after the Federal Government revealed that some beneficiaries of the N-power welfare programme would be removed from the system before the end of 2020.
