Ondo Doctors Begin Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Four Months Salaries And Allowances

The doctors in Ondo State under the auspices of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), Ondo chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries and other allowances.

The doctors commenced an indefinite strike on Monday, November 9, 2020, saying the the industrial action became imperative due to the failure of the state government to address their demands.

Speaking on the development, the Acting President of the National Association of Resident Doctors, UNIMEDTH Ondo, Dr Sanni Oriyomi, said his members could no longer work without being paid.

Oriyomi claimed that the government was still owing them four and a half months salaries, COVID-19 allowance, and other entitlements including non-availability of residence.

The Acting president insist that the doctors will not return to work until part of their salaries are paid and identity cards issued to their members.

This is coming two months after Resident Doctors across the country embarked on an indefinite strike over non-implementation of the revised hazard allowance for all health workers, which was supposed to commence in September 2020.
