“Father Mbaka Couldn’t Have Attacked BBC Journalists, He Can’t Do Such” – Spokesman

Mr. Maximus Ugwoke, spokesman of the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has reacted to an allegation that his principal assaulted two BBC journalists and their driver in his residence in Emene town.

KanyiDaily recalls that BBC journalists had accused Father Mbaka of brutalizing and assaulting them when they went to interview him on Wednesday.

The journalists, who were accompanied by another Catholic priest, Father Cajethan Obiekezie, said instead of granting them the interview after waiting for him for several hours, Father Mbaka unleashed his ‘men’ on them and they were beaten up while their mobile phones and equipment were confiscated.

Speaking with Vanguard on Thursday evening, Mbaka’s spokesman said that he just learnt about the development but has not heard from the man of God.

Ugwoke, however, doubted the BBC journalists allegation, insisting that the cleric cannot do that kind of a thing the way they described it.

“Well, I just got to hear about the story this evening that they are pedeling around. I am not preview to these things and I am not aware that it happened,” he said.

”What I am doing now is to find out if such a thing happened. Until I reach father before I would know if such a thing happened.

“I just went through the story and I know that father cannot do that kind of a thing, he cannot. Father cannot do that kind of a thing, doesn’t father grant interview to the press? He cannot do that kind of a thing the way they described it there.”

KanyiDaily recalls that the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Adewale Martins, had warned that Father Mbaka may be barred if he continues to deviate from the doctrines of the Catholic Church.
