“Our Democracy Under Assault” – Biden Reacts To Invasion Of US Capitol By Trump’s Supporters

President-elect, Joe Biden has reacted to the violence that rocked the US Capitol Hill following the invasion by the supporters of President Donald Trump.

KanyiDaily had reported how Trump’s loyalists stormed the US Capitol Hill to protest the results of the US elections which produced Joe Biden as the next president of America.

Trump, who has refused to concede the November 3 presidential election, had charged his supporters to march to the Capitol Hill on Wednesday, January 6, 2020.

During the protest, Trump’s supporters breached barricades and broke windows to enter the Capitol Hill prompting lockdown as the Vice President, Mike Pence, was scuttled to safety while other lawmakers took cover.

The lawmakers were expected to count and confirm the votes cast by state electors during the election when the protesters invaded the parliament.

An unidentified woman was shot dead during the invasion, while some officers were also injured and at least one had been transported to the hospital.

Reacting to the invasion of the Capitol Hill during the process of certifying the election, Joe Biden said “the Democracy is fragile, let’s preserve it.”

“At this hour our democracy is under unprecedented assault unlike anything we’ve seen in modern times,” Biden said.

“The scenes of chaos at the capitol do not reflect a true America, do not represent who we are.

“I call on this mob to pull back and allow democracy to go forward. At their best the words of a president can inspire, at their worst they can incite.

“The words of a president matter, no matter how good or bad that president is… At their best, the words of a president can inspire. At their worst, they can incite.”

Biden called on Trump to “go on national television now, to fulfil his oath and defend the Constitution and demand an end to this siege.”

This is coming few weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the bid by President Trump to nullify the election results in four pivotal states that went in favor of Joe Biden.
