President Buhari Appoints Farouk Yahaya As Chief Of Army Staff To Replace Late Attahiru

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

According to a statement on Thursday, Farouk was appointed to replace the recently demised General Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a fatal plane crash en-route Kaduna State along with other senior officers and crew members.

Until his appointment, Major General Farouk was GOC Div. 1 and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI.

The appointment comes five days after the burial of the late COAS Attahiru and six other senior officers at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
