KanyiDaily had reported how a train heading from Abuja to Kaduna was attacked by terrorists who opened fire on over 970 passengers on board, killing some and whisking away unspecified number of people on Monday night, March 28.

A medical doctor identified as Dr Chinelo Megafo had been confirmed as one of the eight persons killed in the attack, while many others were injured and several unaccounted for.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kaduna commissioner for internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruwan said 398 passengers bought tickets for the trip, but 362 passengers boarded the train according to the manifest.

Aruwan revealed that the document confirmed that 8 dead bodies were recovered, while 26 were injured, with several of the passengers still unaccounted for as search operations were said to be ongoing.

“The passenger manifest does not include NRC staff and security officials who were on board.

“Furthermore, security agencies have reported that eight bodies were recovered and 26 perons injured during the attack.

“Investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the status of the passengers who were on board the train and remain unaccounted for at the time of this update. Search operations are also being sustained.
