The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has imposed a ban on the founder of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka, due to his teachings and utterances.

Catholic Church Bans Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry

A letter signed by the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Callistus Onaga said the ban was because of Mbaka’s teachings and utterances which he said violates the Catholic faith.

He ordered that no Catholic priest or lay faithful should attend activities of the Adoration Ministry henceforth until the due canonical process initiated by the Diocese is concluded.

The letter reads, “In the light of the happenings in the Catholic Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy Enugu; capable of undermining the Catholic faith and teachings; and after several fraternal corrections and admonitions to Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka, the Chaplain of the Ministry; and after having given him pastoral directives and guidelines for the Ministry Chaplaincy, which he persistently violated; and in fulfilment of my pastoral duties as the Chief Shepherd with the obligation to promote and safeguard the Catholic faith and morals in Enugu Diocese, I hereby prohibit all Catholics (clergy, religious and lay faithful) henceforth from attending all religious and liturgical activities of the Catholic Adoration Ministry until the due canonical process initiated by the Diocese is concluded.

“My decision is based on the fact that some of the teachings and utterances of Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka at the Catholic Adoration Ministry are not consistent with the teachings and faith of the Catholic Church.

“I enjoin all the Christian Faithful to keep praying for Fr. Mbaka and the Catholic Diocese of Enugu as I entrust him and the Diocese to the maternal care and protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the Apostles. Fraternally Yours in Christ.”

Father Mbaka and Peter Obi

KanyiDaily recalls that in 2018, Father Mbaka embarrassed himself while trying to extort money from Peter Obi and suggesting that he will support Buhari over his refusal.

Amidst the outrage trailing the incident, Peter Obi reached out to his supporters restraining them from attacking Fr. Mbaka because of his love for the priest.

While addressing his worshippers recently in Enugu, the priest declared that the former Anambra governor cannot be Nigeria’s President because he is a stingy man who refused to donate to the church.

“A stingy man cannot be our president, we are very hungry — we need a generous person, Nigerians are hungry, are we not hungry?” Mbaka had said.

Mbaka, who also described Peter Obi as a joker, said it was better to have an old man as president than a “stingy young man.”

The priest said many abusive things about the LP presidential candidate which drew public anger toward him on social media.

Amid the outrage, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu had issued a statement where it condemned and dissociated the church from Mbaka’s comments.

The church said the action of Mbaka was contrary to canon 220 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law which prohibits anyone from illegitimately harming the good name of a person.

The ban imposed on Adoration Ministry comes after Father Ejike Mbaka apologized to Peter Obi after declaring that he would fail in the 2023 general election because he’s stingy.
