A funeral service for late Queen Elizabeth II has commenced with a lie in state at Westminster Abbey as mourners seated for the state burial.
KanyiDaily had reported that Queen Elizabeth, who was the longest-serving British monarch, died at the age of 96 on Thursday, September 9, 2021.
On Monday, September 19, the late Queen’s state funeral takes place at Westminster Abbey, with King Charles and members of the Royal Family leading a procession of her coffin through London – and now onto Windsor.
The coffin arrived on Monday for the funeral, which is being attended by by 2,000 guests, including leaders from around the world.
The state gun carriage bearing the coffin was hauled to the abbey by Royal Navy sailors, according to the tradition that dates back to Queen Victoria’s funeral in 1901.
Before the funeral, the guests including King Charles and other members of the Royal Family observed a two-minute silence before singing the national anthem.
