Saudi King Declares Public Holiday To Celebrate Argentina Win

Saudi King has declared public holiday over ghe win against Argentina

Following their historic 2-1 win against Argentina at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia has declared Wednesday a public holiday in the country.

Argentina thought they had doubled their lead three times before the interval but Messi and Lautaro Martínez -- twice -- were ruled fractionally offside after racing clear of the Saudi defence. Both Martinez's disallowed goals were special, the first a dink over the onrushing Alowais, who was then sold a brilliant dummy for the second after the Inter Milan striker had been sprung again from Messi's pass. Argentina's early penalty came after the referee consulted the pitch-side monitor but will raise further questions about consistent application of the laws at the tournament, given it was a less compelling claim than Harry Maguire's appeal in England's 6-2 win over Iran yesterday. Argentina were dysfunctional and pedestrian in Russia four years ago and here they were just too easily unsettled by a proactive, high-pressing and well-organised Saudi side. By half-time, they had wracked up more offsides, seven, than in the entire 2018 World Cup. Saudi Arabia, who lost captain Salman Al-Faraj to injury in the first half, will now fancy their chances of qualifying from a group containing Mexico and Poland, while the Argentines must lick their wounds and recover from an historic failure.

Public Holiday Declared By Saudi King To Celebrate Argentina Win

Saudi Gazette announced on Twitter on Tuesday evening.

The match which was held on Tuesday afternoon saw the Arabian side shockingly defeat World Cup favourites Argentina in Group C after an unbelievable performance.

Although Argentina was tipped to win, plus they had arguably the best player in the world at the moment, seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi, they struggled to have a foothold in the game losing all three points to a resilient Saudi Arabia.

The tweet read, “King Salman orders that tomorrow, Wednesday, will be a holiday for all employees in public and private sectors as well as students in all phases of education in celebration of #SaudiArabia’s stunning victory against Argentina in #WorldCup2022.”

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that Manchester United on Tuesday evening announced that Cristiano Ronaldo will leave the club by mutual agreement with immediate effect.

The club, however, thanked Ronaldo for his contribution during the two spells which saw him score 145 goals in 346 appearances.

Manchester United stated this in a statement on its official website.
