The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the devastating earthquake that happened in Turkey and Syria on Monday.

Atiku Abubakar Reacts To Turkey-Syria Earthquake

Recall that a devastating earthquake ripped through Turkey and Syria, leaving destruction and debris on each side of the border.

About 5000 people are said to have died and a rescue operation is ongoing to pull survivors from beneath the rubble.

Reports say one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the region in a century shook residents from their beds at around 4 a.m. on Monday, sending tremors as far away as Lebanon and Israel.

In Turkey, at least 2,921 people were killed and more than 15,800 others injured, according to Turkey’s head of disaster services, Yunus Sezer.

In neighboring Syria, at least 1,451 people have died. According to the Syrian state news agency SANA, 711 people have died across government-controlled areas, mostly in the regions of Aleppo, Hama, Latakia, and Tartus.

Taking to his official Twitter handle on Tuesday, Atiku Abubakar said he is numbed by the growing number of casualties in the earthquake.

According to Atiku Abubakar, he can only imagine the grief of the thousands of families who may have lost dear ones and the plight of the injured and those made homeless by the tragedy.

The PDP presidential candidate noted that he, is, however, inspired by the solidarity and support of the rest of the world, particularly adversaries.

He added, “It confirms that we are indeed one people, and what affects one should be of concern to the rest of humanity.”

He extended his condolence to the families of the deceased and the governments and people of Turkey and Syria.

Meanwhile, Kanyi Daily reported that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has said the country’s democracy must thrive for the succeeding generation.

Peter Obi reminded everyone that as patriotic Nigerians, each person has an obligation to create an enabling environment.
