Atere community in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State was thrown into tension and anxiety on Tuesday morning, 23 April after some persons said to be land grabbers/prospectors entered the community.

The land grabbers invaded the community armed with a bulldozer and a 1988 court judgement apparently to reclaim portions of land

Reports say the land prospectors had on April 15th, 2023 invaded the community brandishing a 1988 court judgement.

The judgment, they claim, gave them authority over the land.

Some sources say the invaders, who included armed policemen, had marked people’s homes and sundry property and had threatened to demolish them allegedly based on the contents of the said court judgement.

Atere community is after Kasumu, off the Tipper Garage area of Akala Expressway in Ibadan city.

Mr. Abiodun Bolarinwa who is the Chairman of the residents association of the affected community, in an interview with newsmen, said the matter had been reported to the police and at the Office of the Oyo State Commissioner for Lands through its Committee on such matters.

According to him, they had not been given a date to hear their matter and expressed the optimism that they would sort out the issues amicably as they were not troublemakers.

The residents of the Atere community were however, alarmed on Tuesday morning, that the land prospectors had returned with a bulldozer which was being allegedly used to demolish people’s fences.

They called on the Oyo State government to come to their rescue, saying the matter was becoming worrisome.

In other news, Kanyi Daily reported that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State dissolved his cabinet ahead of his swearing-in ceremony on May 29, 2023.

Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, will be sworn in for a second term of four years on May 29.
