This decision follows criticism of the Samoa agreement, which many Nigerians believe recognizes LGBT rights.
Deputy Minority Leader, Aliyu Madaki and 88 others raised concerns on Tuesday, pointing out offensive clauses in the agreement.
Madaki argued that the agreement promotes LGBT rights, which contradicts the country’s laws.
He specifically mentioned a clause on “gender equality,” calling it a Trojan horse that could undermine the country’s morals.
The reps asked the FG to suspend the implementation of the Samoa Agreement until all controversial clauses are addressed and spelt out.
The House also instructed its relevant committees to investigate these controversial provisions.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Federal Government had confirmed signing the Samoa agreement but clarified that Nigeria’s law against same-sex marriage takes precedence.
