Speaking at the AmericaFest conference for young conservatives in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump outlined his plans while Republicans prepare to control both Congress and the White House, continuing to push policies seen as anti-LGBTQ.
He pledged to issue executive orders to stop gender-affirming surgeries for minors, ban transgender individuals from serving in the military, and remove transgender topics from elementary, middle, and high schools.
“There will only be male and female in America. I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, get transgender out of the military and out of our elementary schools and middle schools and high schools,” he said.
The president-elect also vowed to “keep men out of women’s sports,” adding that “it will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”
Transgender rights have become a contentious issue in U.S. politics.
Republican-led states have introduced measures limiting access to medical treatments and restricting related books in public and school libraries. Meanwhile, Democratic-controlled states have pursued policies supporting transgender people.
Last week, Congress included a provision in its defense budget to restrict funding for gender-affirming care for the children of military service members.
During his Sunday speech, Donald Trump laid out ambitious goals for his second term and criticized the Biden administration, describing its tenure as a period of “failure” and “national decline.”
He promised a fresh start for the country after his inauguration on January 20.
The president-elect also pledged to resolve global conflicts, including ending the war in Ukraine, stabilizing the Middle East, and preventing a potential World War III.
“On January 20, the United States will turn the page forever on four long, horrible years of failure, incompetence, national decline, and we will inaugurate a new era of peace, prosperity and national greatness,” Trump said, referring to his swearing-in.
“I will end the war in Ukraine. I will stop the chaos in the Middle East, and I will prevent, I promise, World War III. I can proudly proclaim that the golden age of America is upon us.”
KanyiDaily had also reported that Donald Trump is planning to sign an executive order banning transgender individuals from serving in the military on his first day in office.
