Nigerian artist, Asake has surprised fans with a new single titled “Military” amidst the drama trailing his outfit at the 67th Grammy Awards.
KanyiDaily recalls that Asake turned heads by wearing a military-style camouflage outfit at the Grammys.
Speaking to the press on the red carpet, the singer explained that he simply wanted to express himself in his own way.
Asake’s choice of title and lyrics suggests what he calls his “military era” where he chose to do whatever he wished.
In the song, Asake also addressed critics who often question his preference for singing in Yoruba and scrutinize his English skills.
The artist, who confidently rap in Yoruba, told his detractors they can say whatever they like while admitting he doesn’t feel entirely comfortable speaking English.
The song also sees Asake boasting about his success, claiming he has more wealth than many of his peers.
Asake samples 2Pac’s *Do For Love* while giving a nod to his former YBNL boss, Olamide, who is credited for his success.
He even hints at the possibility of dropping a surprise album, reinforcing his commitment to doing things his way.
“Military”, available exclusively on Audiomack, marks Asake’s first release of 2025. Though unannounced, the track seems to serve as a direct response to ongoing conversations about his artistry.
