“I’m Not Afraid Of You” – Natasha Tells Akpabio As He Orders Her Out Of Plenary [Video]

Tensions flared in the Senate on Thursday when Senate President Godswill Akpabio ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central from the chamber.

The dispute began when Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Monguno reported that Senator Natasha had refused to move to her newly assigned seat.

The reassignment was part of an adjustment following the defection of two opposition senators to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Monguno cited Senate rules, emphasizing that the Chief Whip has the authority to enforce seating arrangements, while the Senate President has the power to reassign seats at any time.

He also noted that senators must speak only from their designated seats, reinforcing Akpabio’s authority to deny recognition to those who do not comply.

Despite this, Natasha Uduaghan stood her ground, arguing that her privileges as a senator were being violated.

She attempted to invoke Senate Order 10 in her defense but was ruled out of order by Akpabio, who maintained that she could not speak from an unapproved seat.

Frustrated by the situation, Natasha accused Akpabio of deliberately silencing her and obstructing her legislative work, alleging that her bills had been repeatedly blocked from advancing.

She declared that she would not be sidelined and dared Akpabio to suspend her, vowing to continue representing her constituents and advocating for women’s rights.

She further accused the Senate President of discrimination, claiming he had used demeaning language against women.

Her resistance led Akpabio to instruct the sergeant-at-arms to remove her from the chamber.

“I don’t care if I am silenced. I am not afraid of you. You have denied me my privilege,” she shouted at Akpabio.

Her Kogi State colleagues quickly intervened, with Senator Isa Jibrin, chairman of the Kogi Senate Caucus, condemning her actions and apologizing to Akpabio and the Senate.

Jibrin stated, “The recent movement of the senators is attributable to the defection of Sen Ned Nwoko.

“The reaction of Natasha is uncalled for, and I want to sincerely apologise to the Senate President and to the entire Senate on behalf of Sen. Natasha.”

As the situation escalated, Akpabio considered suspending Natasha, but several senators urged caution and attempted to calm tensions.

When the Sergeant-at-Arms moved to escort Natasha out, some lawmakers, including Senator Austin Akobundu, stepped in to prevent her forceful removal.

After a tense standoff, Natasha eventually relented, and Senate proceedings returned to normal.
