The visit, which took place in Kaduna, was led by former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
He was joined by several well-known politicians, including former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, ex-Minister of Communications Isa Pantami, and former governors Achike Udenwa (Imo), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), and Jibrilla Bindow (Adamawa).
The visit stirred public interest, especially since El-Rufai recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nasir El-Rufai dismissed any political link to the visit, describing the gathering as one rooted in faith and brotherhood.
He wrote, “We joined over faithful for Jumaat prayers at the Yahaya Road Mosque and had a sumptuous lunch at the Buhari Residence.
“By the way, our adversaries should not lose any sleep. It is not about politics. It is about unity and brotherhood. And since we are all politically irrelevant, we just prayed and enjoyed lunch with our mentor.”
El-Rufai previosly revealed that he had informed Buhari before leaving the APC for the SDP, and said the former president supported his decision and prayed for him.
In response, Buhari made it clear that he remains committed to the APC, despite the recent political moves made by some of his close allies.
KanyiDaily recalls that Nasir el-Rufai, resigned from the APC and joined the SDP in March, citing dissatisfaction with the ruling party’s direction.
