Lagos To Arraign 62 Homeless Persons Arrested During Midnight Raid At Island

Officers from the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce carried out a late-night raid across parts of Lagos Island, arresting 62 people.

The operation, which led to the arrest of 59 men and 3 women, is part of a renewed push to remove suspected criminals from the streets and take back public areas for safe use.

According to the government, the task force began the operation around 1:30 a.m., focusing on busy areas like Victoria Island, Falomo, the Eko Hotel axis, Osborne, and nearby streets that have recently seen a rise in suspicious and disruptive activities.

Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the raid through his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, describing it as an important step toward restoring public order.

He explained that the clean-up targeted known trouble zones, and the operation led to the arrest of dozens of individuals believed to be causing disturbances in those areas.

Wahab wrote, “In continuation of the agency’s clean-up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements, operatives of the Environmental Taskforce team set out at about 0130hrs on Friday, 23rd May 2025 and embarked on its ongoing clean-up enforcement operation on the Island.”

“The areas visited during the operation include Victoria Island, Falomo, Eko Hotel, Osborne and other adjoining streets where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.”

“During the raid exercise, a total number of 62 suspects were arrested which comprises 59 males and 3 females. Sanity was restored in all the areas,” he continued.

He also confirmed that the arrested suspects will face legal action and will be charged in court.

All the suspects will be charged to court accordingly,” Wahab stated.

KanyiDaily recalls that a Lagos resident, Olawale Ogunbadejo was remanded in prison for allegedly dumping refuse on a public road.
