The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a man, Collins Musa Inu Umoru for allegedly impersonating adult film star, Mia Khalifa on social media to commit internet fraud.

Umoru was arraigned on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, before Justice Daniel Osiagor at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos where he’s facing a two-count charge related to fraudulent impersonation.
According to the EFCC, Umoru posed as a white woman identified as “Mia Khalifa” on his Twitter account with the intent of using it to deceive others into giving him money or financial benefits.
One of the counts reads: “That you, COLLINS MUSA INU UMOR, between September 2024 and June 2025 in Lagos, within the Judicial Division of this Honourable Court, directly made a false statement, wherein you held yourself out as a white woman “MIA KHALIFA” on your Twitter account, knowing same to be false and with intent that the representation is relied upon for the purpose of procuring the issuance of financial instrument to yourself and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 22(3) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015”.
Umoru pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Following the plea, EFCC’s lawyer, Fanen Anum, requested a trial date and asked that the defendant be remanded in custody.
However, Umoru’s lawyer, Abdullahi Tony Daniel, informed the court of a motion on notice dated July 2, 2025, seeking the court to admit the defendant to bail.
“The defendant is a student and from a reputable family. The deponent of the affidavit is also in court and he is a business man. I pray the court to release the defendant to me pending the perfection of his bail,” he said.
Justice Osiagor granted bail in the amount of N5 million and required one surety of the same sum.
The surety must have a reasonable means of livelihood and be a relative of the defendant.
The surety must also deposit two passport photographs with the court’s Registrar.
Pending the completion of the bail process, the court allowed Umoru to be released into the care of his lawyer.
The case has been adjourned to November 25, 2025, when the trial is expected to begin.
KanyiDaily recalls that the EFCC arrested 74 people suspected of internet fraud during a raid in Abuja hotel.
