Gunmen Kill Two Policemen Escorting Ebonyi Majority Leader In Imo

Two police officers assigned to Kingsley Ikoro, the Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, were shot dead by unknown gunmen in Okigwe, Imo State.

According to reports, the attack happened on Sunday while the officers were on the road with the lawmaker and his convoy.

One of the vehicles reportedly broke down, leaving the two policemen behind while the rest of the group moved ahead.

It was during this time that the gunmen struck, killing the officers.

Okigwe is known as a trouble spot in Imo State and has seen frequent violent attacks in recent times.

Reacting to the incident, Imo State Police Command spokesperson Henry Okoye said on Monday that those behind the killings would be hunted down and brought to justice.

There is no hiding place for those behind this heinous crime,” Okoye said.

“The bodies of the officers, who paid the supreme price in the line of duty, have been evacuated to a morgue, and a thorough investigation is underway.”

Okoye also confirmed that tactical teams are searching the surrounding forests and bushes in pursuit of the attackers, assuring the public that they will be caught and held accountable.

KanyiDaily also reported that a police inspector, Donfa Chirtip was killed, and his wife, Victoria, abducted by gunmen at Kurmin Kare in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
