NCAA To Blacklist Kwam 1 From Flying In Nigeria For 6 Months

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced plans to place Fuji music legend, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as Kwam 1, on a six-month flight ban.

This comes in the wake of an altercation involving the singer and officials of ValueJet airline, where he was accused of breaching aviation safety protocols at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The NCAA revealed that the situation escalated when Kwam 1 reportedly attempted to board a domestic flight with an unidentified liquid, which turned out to be alcohol, something prohibited on board Nigerian flights.

On August 5, the NCAA suspended two ValueJet pilots for failing to follow proper departure clearance procedures, putting ground staff and airport users at risk

Investigations later linked the pilots’ suspension to the incident involving the musician at Abuja airport.

According to reports, Kwam 1 was seen drinking from a flask while on board, prompting a flight attendant to step in.

Security officials said the liquid was spilled on one of them during the encounter and was later confirmed to be alcohol.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said the singer had ignored warnings not to bring the substance onto the plane.

Kwam 1 has denied the allegations, insisting the contents of the flask were simply water given to him at the airport lounge.

The musician claimed the reports have been exaggerated and do not reflect what truly happened.

However, NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu told reporters on Thursday that the agency is taking the matter seriously and intends to hold everyone involved accountable.

He said, “What I must assure the general public is that everybody involved in this will be brought to book.

“As we speak, the passenger is going to be blacklisted for the next six months flying in Nigeria.

“Aviation rules are made for everybody, for the protection of everybody. These rules are global. There is nothing about the rules that is to antagonise any passenger.

“So, we will do everything we can to get to the root of it. Everybody who needs to be punished or sanctioned will receive justice.”

Achimugu added that the NCAA has already contacted the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to begin legal action against the musician.

When asked if Kwam 1’s close ties to President Bola Tinubu or Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo might shield him, Achimugu stressed that the NCAA remains committed to due process and justice regardless of anyone’s status or connections.

KanyiDaily recalls that popular drummer Kunle Ayanlowo previously alleged that Kwam 1 was making threats against his life after allegedly sleeping with his girlfriend.
