Nigeria’s Consul-General In Cameroon, Taofik Coker Is Dead

Nigeria’s Consul-General in Buea, Cameroon, Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, has died.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced his death in a statement on Wednesday, saying Taofik Coker died on August 16 after a brief illness.

Spokesperson for the ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, described Coker as a dedicated and hardworking career diplomat who served the country with professionalism and commitment in various capacities.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces, with deep sorrow, the sudden demise of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, the Consul General of Nigeria in Buea, Republic of Cameroon, who unfortunately passed on after a brief illness on Saturday, 16th August 2025. 

“Ambassador Coker was a hard-working and dedicated career diplomat who served Nigeria with distinction, commitment and professionalism in different capacities.

“His untimely death, therefore, is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large,” the statement reads.

Ambassador Coker was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in April 2024 and officially assumed office in May of that year. Upon taking up the post, he pledged to strengthen ties between Nigeria and Cameroon.

Before becoming consul-general in Buea, he had served in several foreign missions, including postings in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China.

The ministry extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.

KanyiDaily also reported that Dr. Doyin Abiola, a pioneering Nigerian journalist and former Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of National Concord, recently died at the age of 82.
