The Magistrate Court in Ikorodu ordered DNA tests to be carried out on Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The order was issued by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga following an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who requested a paternity test for his grandson.
Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was named as the respondent in the case, which was brought pursuant to Order 8 Rules 1 & 8 of the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) 2012, and Order 9 Rules 8 & 9 of the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009.
According to court filings, Joseph Aloba asked that tissue, hair, or other samples be taken from his late son’s remains at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, where the body is currently kept. These samples, he argued, should be used for DNA testing to confirm whether Liam is indeed Mohbad’s biological child.
The application also requested that the test be carried out at a certified medical facility either in Lagos or, if necessary, at a recognised hospital abroad, with all costs covered by the applicant.
In his application, Aloba explained that doubts over Liam’s paternity needed to be resolved, stressing that the outcome would affect issues of child welfare and financial support.
During the proceedings, Augustine Adegbemi from the law firm of Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co. appeared on behalf of Joseph Aloba, while lawyer Kabir Akingbolu represented Wunmi, the late singer’s wife.
The request for the DNA test was not opposed, and the magistrate granted it.
“The court hereby orders that two DNA tests be conducted one within Nigeria and another in a recognised and accredited hospital outside Nigeria.
“Both parties or their representatives shall be present when the samples are taken,” Sonuga ruled.
The magistrate adjourned the case to November 11, 2025, for further hearing.
KanyiDaily recalls that Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba vowed to take legal action against his daughter-in-law, Wunmi, even if a DNA test confirms that Liam is his grandson.
