The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says its officers stopped an attempt to smuggle drugs into the Kuje custodial centre in Abuja.

In a statement on Monday, Samson Duza, spokesperson for the FCT command, said the incident happened at about 12:45 pm on Saturday during a routine security check.
He explained that a man identified as Njimogu Ikedi had “concealed substances believed to be cannabis sativa and other psychoactive drugs in his clothes while trying to visit an inmate”.
According to him, Christopher Jen, the FCT controller of corrections, immediately ordered the suspect’s arrest.
Ikedi was later handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Jen warned that anyone with plans to smuggle contraband into the prison should think twice, stressing that officers remain alert and will always expose such attempts.
He also urged the public to work with the service in ensuring offenders are properly reformed and rehabilitated for the safety of society.
KanyiDaily also reported how seven inmates escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, after part of the prison’s old perimeter wall collapsed during heavy rainfall.
