Kayode Akinmade, media and strategy adviser to the governor, announced the appointments on Friday, saying the initiative is designed to bring government closer to the people and strengthen democratic structures across the state.
According to him, each of Ogun’s 236 wards will have five appointees who will act as a direct link between the people and the state government.
Their role will include highlighting the needs of their communities, relaying these to the government, and providing timely feedback in return.
“The newly appointed political assistants are to support the delivery of democratic dividends, articulate the needs of their respective wards, and communicate these needs to the state government.
“They are also expected to provide accurate feedback from the government to the wards and vice versa,” Akinmade said.
He added that the move aligns with Governor Abiodun’s campaign promise of inclusive governance where every ward has a voice in decision-making and development plans.
The government further urged the new assistants to play active roles in driving growth, not just in their wards, but also in their local councils and the state at large.
KanyiDaily recalls that Ogun LG chairman, Wale Adedayo, was suspended for three months after accusing Governor Dapo Abiodun of diversion of funds.
