Labour Party’s George Moghalu Loses Polling Unit To Soludo In Anambra Election

Labour Party governorship candidate George Moghalu lost his polling unit to Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the ongoing Anambra State governorship election.

The result, announced by the presiding officer, Okonkwo Ebere, around 2:50 p.m., showed that Soludo secured 57 votes, while Moghalu got 22 votes.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, managed 5 votes.

In total, 85 valid votes were recorded out of 463 registered voters, representing less than 20 percent voter participation at the unit.

Moghalu, who voted earlier at about 11:40 a.m. in Uruagu Ward 1, Nnewi North Local Government Area, was accompanied by his family and close associates.

Speaking after voting, the Labour Party candidate expressed concern over reports of vote buying and low voter turnout in different parts of the state.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the lapses witnessed during the exercise.

A Labour Party agent at the polling unit also alleged that some voters demanded money before casting their ballots.

People are asking us to give them money before they can vote,” the agent said.

Observation from field reporters indicated that voting began late in several polling units due to the delayed arrival of election materials and voters.

At PU 012, Cooperative Centre, Uruagu Ward 1, as of 10:58 a.m., only a few people had shown up to vote.

There were also widespread reports of vote buying across parts of Nnewi North, while overall voter participation remained poor in many polling stations within the area.

KanyiDaily recalls that Peter Obi condemned vote buying, questioning the long-term consequences for young, unemployed voters who exchange their votes for cash.
