The family and community of Ms. Comfort Uwakwe have raised serious concerns over the circumstances surrounding her disappearance after she reportedly went to visit her boyfriend in Epe, Lagos State, in October 2025.

Ms. Uwakwe, a native of Owalla Autonomous Community in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State and a resident of Mafolokun, Oshodi, Lagos, was last heard from on October 25, 2025. According to her family, she travelled to Epe to visit a friend identified as Olajide Akeushola.
Family sources say that upon arriving in Epe, Ms. Uwakwe contacted a female friend, identified as Ifeoma, to confirm she had reached her destination and met the person she came to see. Later that same evening, at about 10:08 p.m., she reportedly made a distress call, stating that she had been locked in a room and feared for her safety. Her phone subsequently went off, and she has not been heard from since.
On October 27, 2025, the family reported her missing at the Makinde Police Station in Oshodi. Although an Investigating Police Officer (IPO) was assigned, relatives were initially advised to report the case at Epe Police Station since she was last seen there. However, the family said they were referred back to Makinde Police Station, where investigations formally commenced on October 28, 2025.
Nearly a month later, on November 26, 2025, Mr. Akeushola was arrested in Epe and transferred to Makinde Police Station before being moved to the Lagos State Command Special Squad in Ikeja on November 28, 2025, where he was listed as a suspect.
According to the family, the suspect admitted to meeting Ms. Uwakwe on the day she went missing and claimed they had drinks together. He further alleged that after she became tipsy, he locked her in a hotel room. He later told police that she was involved in a fatal accident along the Epe highway, where he claimed she was crushed by a trailer.
Police authorities reportedly stated that the suspect later led officers to the alleged accident scene, where a severed leg was recovered over a month after the supposed incident. The family, however, disputed the claim, insisting the leg did not belong to Ms. Uwakwe. They subsequently requested an autopsy and DNA analysis, agreeing to cover the costs.
The development has sparked widespread concern within the Owalla community and beyond, with the Owalla Town Development Union, Lagos branch, publicly calling for greater transparency and thoroughness in the investigation.
The family has raised several unanswered questions, including the identity of the recovered body part, the whereabouts of the rest of Ms. Uwakwe’s body if she was indeed involved in an accident, and how she could have reached a highway after allegedly being locked in a hotel room. They are also questioning whether hotel staff were interviewed, whether there was evidence of forced entry or escape, and why other possible lines of investigation have not been fully explored.
The family is asking the Nigerian Police the following questions;
1. Whose leg was picked by police?
2. If it’s Comfort’s leg, as claimed by the suspect (And the police seems to believe him) where are the other parts of parts of Comfort’s body?
3. If Comfort was locked in the hotel room, as the r claimed, how did she escape to the “highway” where, according to the suspect, she was said to have been crushed by a speeding truck?
4. What are the hotel staff on duty on fateful day saying? escaped to the Epe highway from the hotel room where she was locked, was there evidence of the door or window of the room being forced open?
6. Why is the police holding on to the ‘accident’ story of the suspect, and are not looking at other possibilities like ritual murder (Given the sudden appearance of a leg without a body).
7. Why is the “leg of an accident victim” still intact at the accident scene for several weeks, and not rotting when it was discovered?
In a statement signed by the President of the Owalla Town Development Union, Lagos branch, Mr. Chiedozie Nzeh, the group called on the Nigerian Police to exercise due diligence and ensure justice is served.
