This comes just four days after the first blackout of 2026.
At the time of writing this report, the grid was not supplying any electricity to the 11 distribution companies.
The first grid failure this year occurred last Friday, coming just weeks after a similar breakdown on December 29, 2025, which caused widespread outages across the country.
Experts say these collapses are often caused by a mix of technical problems, poor maintenance of transmission lines, and inconsistent power generation.
Electricity generation fell sharply from over 4,500 megawatts to zero by 11:00 AM.
Checks also revealed that all 23 power plants connected to the national grid stopped producing power during the incident, meaning none of the distribution companies received any electricity.
The exact cause of Tuesday’s collapse is not yet known, and the Transmission Company of Nigeria had not released a full explanation at the time this report was filed.
