Rivers APC Rejects Attempt To Impeach Governor Fubara And His Deputy Ngozi Odu

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the House of Assembly’s move to begin impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, saying such action could threaten the state’s stability.

KanyiDaily recalls that Rivers Assembly began the impeachment process on Thursday over alleged misconduct, with the formal notice expected to be served to the governor and his deputy within seven days.

Reacting to the development through its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, APC described the attempt as unacceptable.

The party acknowledged the Assembly’s constitutional role in oversight but warned that impeachment in this case was unwarranted.

The party also suggested that the impeachment attempt may be tied to unresolved internal conflicts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which it claims are now spilling over to target an APC-led government.

Our position as at today on this matter is that we solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy,” Darlington said.

“It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP are allowed to resurface in our great party.”

The APC argued that the threat seems linked to budgetary disagreements, which it says do not justify extreme legislative measures.

The party reminded that the national budget approved in 2025, totaling ₦1.485 trillion, is designed to run through August 2026, and under the Constitution, a governor may continue spending for up to six months into a new fiscal year without presenting a supplementary budget.

We will do everything possible to ensure that the APC-led government of Rivers State is not undermined through internal disagreements,” the statement said.

The Rivers APC urged lawmakers, especially those elected under its platform, to resist external pressures aimed at undermining the state government.

It warned that continuing with impeachment proceedings could damage the party’s reputation and disrupt ongoing development projects.

The party also called on all political actors to respect democratic principles and allow the government to function without interference from partisan rivalries.

KanyiDaily recalls that Governor Siminalayi Fubara recently announced his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
