Toyin Abraham’s Movie ‘Oversabi Aunty’ Grosses ₦1 Billion At Box Office

Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham, has earned a milestone after her comedy film “Oversabi Aunty”  crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office.

FilmOne Entertainment, the film’s distributor, announced the milestone on Monday via its official X page.

The company said the film has now earned ₦1,017,201,953, making it the first Nollywood directorial debut to surpass ₦1 billion and the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood movie ever.

FilmOne wrote, “₦1 Billion+ at the box office. First Nollywood directorial debut to hit ₦1 Billion.

“4th-highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time. West Africa, this is a full celebration!!!”

Reacting to the news, Toyin Abraham took to Instagram to thank God, her fans, and everyone involved in the project.

She wrote, “My first directorial debut on the big screen. Oversabi Aunty to the world and still showing in cinemas near you.

“Thank you, God. Thank you, Toyintitans. Thank you, Nigerians. Thanks to my cast. Thanks to my crew. Thank you, FilmOne. Thank you, everyone. I’m short of words.” 

Oversabi Aunty, released in December 2025, is a comedy that follows the story of an overzealous church usher who constantly interferes in other people’s family issues, leading to a series of chaotic and funny events.

The film stars Toyin Abraham and features a strong cast including Mike Ezuruonye and Odunlade Adekola. It has been praised for its relatable humour and cultural themes.

On the same day, FilmOne also shared another major box-office update, announcing that Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes has grossed ₦2.4 billion.

FilmOne wrote on X, “The Queen of Box Office for a reason!! Celebrating yet another incredible milestone, and we’re so sure we wouldn’t have done this without you and your love.

“Behind The Scenes hits a whopping ₦2.4bn, making it the highest-grossing film of the year and the highest-grossing film of the weekend.”

Behind The Scenes, also released in December 2025, was the first Nollywood film to reach ₦2 billion at the box office.

It completed its cinema run at about ₦2.103 billion in around a month, breaking the record previously held by Akindele’s Everybody Loves Jenifa.

The film reached ₦1 billion within 17 days and recorded a single-day regional high of ₦129.5 million on Boxing Day.

With this achievement, Funke Akindele becomes the only Nigerian filmmaker to have three films each earn over ₦1 billion: Behind The Scenes, Everybody Loves Jenifa, and A Tribe Called Judah.

Together, these films have earned around ₦5.39 billion at the Nigerian box office.

Akindele also became the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three straight years, from 2023 to 2025, reinforcing her status as one of Nollywood’s most commercially successful filmmakers.
