Imo Is My Home, But I Don’t Regret Marrying Ex-Ondo Governor – Betty Akeredolu [Video]

Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the former first lady of Ondo State, has said that marrying someone from another region has not changed who she is or where she comes from.

Betty, who was married to the late Rotimi Akeredolu, disclose this on Instagram where she made it clear that she still strongly identifies with her roots in Imo State.

The 72-year-old Owerri-born politician said her background is not something anyone should question.

She added that although her marriage took her to the South-West, she has no regrets about it.

“Imo is home. My roots are not up for debate. I am proudly from Imo State, Owerri zone, Owerri West local government and Emeabiam – my small London.

“My marriage across the Niger, I do not regret. It has given me broader experience but it has not erased my roots,” she wrote.

According to her, the experience widened her outlook but did not take away her identity.

Betty Akeredolu also reflected on her time as first lady in Ondo, saying it helped her better understand leadership at the grassroots level.

She explained that working closely with people from different backgrounds improved her approach to community engagement and politics.

Speaking about her political plans, she described her ambition to represent Imo East in the Senate as a return home.

Describing herself as “Ada Owere 1,” Betty said she is ready to help rebuild and develop Imo State.

“My selfless service as First Lady of Ondo State has further enlarged my understanding of grassroots politics and enriched my approach to engaging people across all social strata.

“If anything, these experiences have prepared me better to serve,” she said.

“My quest for Imo East Senatorial seat is a big deal. Remember I am Ada Owere 1.

“So I am going back home, not just to belong, but to join hands to rebuild Imo State.

“Home is where you are valued and I believe where you can serve best. Do you agree?”

Betty Akeredolu recently joined the Labour Party in Imo State and has announced her intention to contest for the Imo East senatorial seat in the 2027 elections.
