Destiny Boy, who was known for mixing traditional Yoruba Fuji music with modern Afrobeats, died on January 17, 2026.
His death sparked public outrage and calls for an autopsy due to the controversial circumstances surrounding it.
Following his death, the singer was seen in a video lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool in his nostrils and ears.
Another video, made by an unidentified associate, claimed Destiny Boy had been dealing with a private health issue.
“God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. We all came to this life to write our own history. May God rest his soul.
“Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” the man said.
His family confirmed that the singer had been living with a long-term illness that caused him to experience seizures.
In a video, his mother, Saida, said the family had sought both medical and traditional treatments for his condition.
However, autopsy report has confirmed that Destiny Boy’s body contained dangerous levels of tramadol and its metabolites, as well as methamphetamine.
According to Daily Trust, the autopsy revealed that the singer died from aspiration pneumonitis caused by ingesting these toxic substances.
The autopsy read: “The Consultant Anatomic Pathologist reported that toxicology results revealed harmful levels of tramadol and its metabolites, as well as methamphetamine, and opined that the cause of death was aspiration pneumonitis resulting from the ingestion of these toxic substances, with the date of death being 17/01/2026.”
Destiny Boy gained attention in 2019 after his Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song “If” went viral on social media.
He also covered songs by artists like Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.
Among his own releases were songs such as “Lamba,” “One Transaction,” “Gbese,” “Billion Dollar,” “Mio Gbonkankan,” and “Lowkey.”
KanyiDaily recalls that Destiny Boy and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child in November 2024.
