KanyiDaily recalls that Trump launched an attack on Pope Leo, accusing the pontiff of taking liberal position on global security and international crises.
The pontiff had tackled the US president over the Iran conflict and immigration policy, with Trump criticising the Vatican’s stance on American military action and border security.
Speaking to journalists aboard the papal plane on his way to Algeria, Pope Leo said he has no fear of the Trump administration and will continue to speak openly about peace and the teachings of the Gospel whenever necessary.
According to Pope Leo, his mission and that of the Catholic Church is to spread the message of the Gospel rather than take sides in political battles or foreign policy debates.
“I have no fear of your administration or speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do, what the Church is here to do,” the pontiff said.
“We are not politicians. We don’t deal with foreign policy with the same perspective you might understand it, but I do believe in the message of the Gospel, as a peacemaker.”
