According to SaharaReporters, President Bola Tinubu and some influential figures in the state had asked Sanwo-Olu to resign because they were unhappy with his leadership and had begun plans for a transition.
Reacting to the claim on Monday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the story is completely false.
He made it clear that no one has asked the governor to resign and insisted that Sanwo-Olu is in good health and fully focused on his duties.
“This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign, this is another fake news,” the statement reads.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State.
“Earlier today, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor.
“The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, as is customary.
“We are issuing this clarification to prevent the public from being misled by deliberate falsehoods. We would ordinarily ignore such baseless reports, but the need to reassure Lagosians makes this response necessary.”
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who became governor in 2019, is expected to complete his second term by May 29, 2027.
KanyiDaily recalls that Babajide Sanwo-Olu had publicly endorsed his deputy Obafemi Hamzat for 2027 governorship election.
