It was gathered that the army general was killed when Boko Haram fighters launched a coordinated overnight attack on a military base in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the military formation in large numbers on Wednesday night, leading to a heavy gun battle between the troops and the insurgents.
The clash reportedly caused casualties on both sides, with several militants also said to have been killed during the exchange.
Local sources said the assault was intense, with the insurgents allegedly overrunning parts of the base before security forces responded.
The chairman of Kaga Local Government, Hon. Zanna Ajimi, also confirmed that the senior officer was among those who lost their lives in the attack.
“Yes, we just left the military base now, and I can confirm to you that the brigade commander is among the casualties,” Hon. Ajimi stated.
A social media post by a resident, Mallam Lawa Benesheikh, also mourned the development, saying the insurgents had once again succeeded in killing the commanding officer in Benesheikh after storming the formation in large numbers.
Mallam Lawa Benesheikh said, “Innalillahi wa Inna’illaihin raji’un.
“Boko Haram has again, unfortunately, succeeded in eliminating the commanding officer of Benishiehk.
“This unfortunate incident occurred yesterday night when the insurgent stormed the military formation in numbers. May the souls of the fallen heroes rest in peace.” He added.
