The decision was confirmed on Saturday during a special national convention held at the party’s office in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
Jonathan was not at the event, but his certificate of return was collected on his behalf by Fred Agbedi, a member of the House of Representatives from Bayelsa State.
The PDP faction had earlier planned to host the convention at the A-Class Park and Event Centre.
However, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) had instructed event centres to only work with political party leadership recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP faction backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is the one recognised by the electoral commission.
On Saturday morning, police officers blocked access to the original venue, forcing organisers to move the event.
Party officials later confirmed that the convention was relocated to another site in Area 10.
It was gathered that the PDP faction will announce a later date for the official presentation of its flag to Goodluck Jonathan.
KanyiDaily recalls that a Federal High Court in Abuja recently ruled that Goodluck Jonathan is eligible to contest the 2027 presidential election.
