According to security publication Zagazola Makama, the troops were ambushed when travelling to carry out a rescue operation following an earlier attack and abduction in communities located along the Kaduna River between Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

The Nigerian Army has been contacted for an official response, but no statement has been issued at the time of filing this report.

The attack comes amid growing security concerns in parts of northern Nigeria, where bandit groups have continued to launch deadly attacks despite ongoing military operations aimed at restoring peace in the region.

KanyiDaily also reported how a colonel and six Nigerian Army soldiers were killed during a terrorist attack in Borno State.
