Ogun Government Mourns Death Of Veteran Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’

The Ogun State Government has expressed sadness over the death of veteran actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

Taiwo Hassan Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.

His daughter, Kira Hassan, announced his death during an emotional Instagram Live session.

Fighting back tears, she told family members and followers, “My daddy is dead. I can’t believe it.

Kira, who was surrounded by relatives during the broadcast, also appealed for help to enable her return home ahead of her father’s burial.

The actor’s death was later confirmed by several sources, including Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood, and veteran actor Jide Kosoko.

According to a burial announcement shared by Kosoko, Hassan will be buried on Monday, August 24, 2026, in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.

His death has since led to widespread mourning across Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with colleagues, friends and fans paying tribute to him.

The Ogun State Government described Hassan’s death as a major loss to the state, Nigeria’s creative sector and the country as a whole.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the government said Hassan was more than a successful actor, describing him as a cultural ambassador who played an important role in promoting Yoruba culture and heritage.

The government also praised his talent, discipline, humility, honesty and professionalism, noting that these qualities earned him respect from fellow actors, fans and Nigerians across different generations.

Ogogo was one of the leading figures in Nigeria’s film industry and was especially recognised for his work in Yoruba-language movies.

Taiwo Hassan Ogogo’s death came only a few days after his family revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer.
