Dangote Gained $5.8bn In One Day And His Worth Rose To $16.6bn, Now 64th Richest Man Worldwide 3

Nigeria’s and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, reportedly gained $5.8bn in one day and his total net worth rose to $16.6bn, making him the world’s 64th richest person.

The president of Dangote Group has significantly moved up to 64th person in the World billionaires’ list, with an estimated $16.6 billion, after gaining $5.8bn within 24 hours on Tuesday.

Dangote, who previously ranked 103rd in the world, has remained the richest man in Africa for the 8th year running.

He was the only Nigerian on the list of the top 500 billionaires, as released last week by Bloomberg in its yearly billionaires’ list.

Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a ranking of the world’s 500 richest people, showed that his wealth fell from $10.5bn at the end of last year to a low of $9.63bn on January 1, 2019. But it grew to $10.8bn on Monday, February 25.

The index also revealed that his net worth increased by 23 percent from $13.5bn on February 26, 2018, to $16.6bn, emerging 64th richest person in the world.

Dangote, who has seen his wealth rise by 58 percent so far this year, emerged the second biggest mover after Andrew Forrest, founder and largest shareholder of Fortescue Metals Group, the world’s fourth-largest iron ore producer. Forrest’s wealth has grown by 59 percent this year.

Jeff Bezos remains the richest man in the world with $136 billion in his kitty while Bill Gates and Warren Buffett followed as 2nd and 3rd respectively with $98.4 billion and $83 billion on the world billionaires’ chart, which is dominated by North Americans.

There are only five Africans on the Bloomberg list of the world’s top 500 billionaires, with Dangote topping the group. The other four Africans include Nicky Oppenheimer of South Africa, who was ranked No. 216 with an estimated worth of $7.05 billion; Johann Rupert of South Africa (ranked No. 225 with an estimated worth of $6.92bn); and Natie Kash of South Africa (ranked No. 263 with an estimated worth of $6.10bn).

The fifth and last African on the list of 500 HNW individuals was Naguib Sawiris of Egypt, ranked No. 331 with an estimated fortune of $5.12bn.
